  68. Learner Centered approach is one of the best way of teaching learning process. The benefits of this approach is that the focus or the centre of all activities is the child and everything has to be developed with the children in the centre. In this approach, we can use play way method to enable or help the children to understand different concepts so it will be easier for them to understand. We have to prepare our lessons or activities which will make it easier for the students to learn as per their capabilities.
There are a few limitations to this approach, one of which being that it is very time consuming and we could be very far behind schedule in our course or syllabus for the session. Due to different capabilities of each child we have to make time and move as per their convenience so it might take longer than usual to finish a certain concept and whole session may be delayed

  75. All children shouldn't be provided with the same set of instructions or have fixed schedules because it doesn't help to learn flexibly and will create learning gaps that don't fulfil the aims of FLN. So, they should be provided with variations in learning that will help them learning as per their learning readiness. They may not belong to the same learning context because some may have a good environment of learning at home under the guidance of parents, and some may not have such facilities.

To my mind, teaching children using a learner-centred approach is much more effective than a teacher-centred approach. Children can learn without any pressure from parents and teachers because it gives them flexibility in acquiring knowledge through play-based learning, activity-based learning, creativity-based learning, etc. There are many benefits that children can learn in a better way and maybe fulfil the basic needs of the foundational learning stage with reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy. But the limitation of a learner-centred approach is time-consuming for teachers because he(she) has to focus on the individual performance of students. One teacher cannot teach more than ten students because he(she) can't pay attention to the individual student. So, they need an assistant teacher like a Child Care Assistant (CCA).

Whereas now as we shift our teaching method to competency based and learner-centred, there is scope for focussing on the learning patterns of each learner. The teacher can act like a guide and facilitate the learning by providing ample learning inputs to the learners as per their needs.

  105. As children come from diverse background with diverse needs,we have to deal with them accordingly. We have to take into account their readiness to learn as they are going through separation anxiety being away from home and family. So at first we try to create a homely environment for early learners and engage them in play activities only. However we have the same instructions and testing schedules for these children irrespective of their learning levels. As such learner-centred approach facilitates in addressing individual needs of the children. It is based on activity methods which enhances different learning levels of children in a stimulating environment.

  107. My journey as an early years teacher has been great with each growing year. Teaching is learning and I have learned so much from my students. My students show the attribute of being  Principled, Risk-taker, Communicator, Caring and a lifelong learners.

No, instructions are given according to each child's need. Differentiate teaching strategies are used.

In my opnion ,benefits of learner-centred approach are

    1. Students develop learning and other skills and gain meaningful knowledge that will help them throughout life.
    2. It can help to build social skills and self-esteem.
    3. Students discover that learning is interesting and fun.
    4. Students are more attentive and willing to participate in the class.

In my opnion , addition to these benefits of learner-centred learning also have shortcomings:

    Limitations
    1. It requires a longer time for students so it is difficult to achieve their goals.
    2. It requires special skills of teachers so that all teachers can do.
    3. Teacher training to be conducted twice a year so that they become familiar with the new learning approach.
    4. Students to learn to work in groups.

  110. All the children should be provided a learner- centred approach as it is the best way to teach and guide the small children belong to different family background s, socio- economic conditions, lifestyle, health status and so on. Their learning levels also differ from eachother. So if the teachers teach them using learner centred approach.it can be a great help to each and every child. It is well known fact that every individual has different types of learning level. To teach all the children teacher can take the help of technology, good and learner friendly textbooks, story telling, arts, colouring, counting numbers, drawing/ painting, shapes/ blocks, audio- visual class may be of great help. Completion of syllabus doesn't matter and time limit also doesn't help the children in the learning. In short children should be taught in a playway method in an open atmosphere where they feel free to express themselves independently.

  113. Every child has his/her ability to learn, preference of learning. Earlier times it was "study to pass" just the competitive aspect was the criteria for "studying". Application was not taken into consideration, hence learning outcomes were "0". As time evolved, teach the child the way she/he is the method where hands on, play way, is adopted; the student learns concept and eventually is able to apply. for eg., the for a class I child, to understand concept of growth of a plant, is to start by allowing the child to germinate a seed, nurture it and watch it step by step till it grows to a sapling and a plant. Or visit to plant nursery or fields. The more the child is allowed to connect to nature and learning happens. As such learner-centred approach facilitates in addressing individual needs of the children. Every concept should be activity based.

    ReplyDelete

  125. Learner Centered approach is the norm today, the approach sounds good if implemented in the true sense; however I have my own reservations about it. How do we make it work? How do you make it enjoyable both for the teachers and learners when the primary stakeholders always want immediate results and 10 GPAs. The society should be educated, the various school managements must be made aware of this approach, the teacher and student communities must be mentored, monitored. The examination or assessment system must be changed. The teachers should be rightfully empowered, trained and be allowed to do their primary job of teaching, facilitating and learning.
Learner centered approach as I see makes the learner too accountable for their learning and not just the teacher. This approach is also useful when the managements don't make the teachers the scapegoats for the poor performance of the students.

Therefore keeping in mind my responsibility as an educator I ensure that my students receive the best teaching as possible. Although the syllabus and tests are the same for every student it is important to know that not all students learn at the same pace and methods. Different students respond to different methods and the benefit of using the learner based method of education is that no student feels left out, this method ensures that every student understands what is being taught in the classroom and when it’s time for the tests the students are prepared for them as they have understood the concepts well.
