A child, when asked to subtract 17-9, wrote 12 as an answer. What does this tell you about the child's thinking and how will you help the learner better understand the concept of subtraction? Share your thoughts.

ReplyDeleteTeacher must create simple Play way method to teach subtraction. By giving chocolates and suggesting them to eat chocolate one' by and telling the student to count remaining chocolates. So they can learn easily
ReplyDeleteWhen a child writes 12 as the answer to 17 − 9, it suggests that the child has not yet fully understood the concept of subtraction. The child may be subtracting only the ones digit (7 − 9) incorrectly or may be confused about regrouping (borrowing). This error indicates a learning gap rather than a lack of ability.
ReplyDeleteTo help the child, I would use concrete materials such as sticks, counters, beads, or a number line to demonstrate subtraction. I would encourage the child to solve real-life problems, such as taking away objects from a group, and explain each step patiently.
