In my State of Meghalaya, wooden based toys like tops, wood masks, wooden mathematical toys are often used as teaching models.Further, kites made out of paper and environment friendly plastics are used and clays based models are also used to make toys and use them for learning.Lastly, paper cutting and pasting is the most effective way of teaching to the toddlers and even the grown up for maths practical and pictorial representation and flip chart for language based learning.

  63. I am from West Bengal. In our state terracota work and dokra work are very famous. Toys made out of this art form can be used as TLM. Also colourful masks from Purulia can be made in class with paper mache and used for role play. It will be a fun activity for kids as well as would help in developing various skills.

  102. Budhni is a village,10 km from Narmadanagar dist. in the vindhyachal forest range (Madhya Pradesh). It is quite famous for its wooden craft culture. Artisans here are skilled at carving lives out of wood. They are faithfully trying to uphold and carry out the 100yr old tradition of “khard shilp.” These wooden toys can be used to demonstrate Different Mathematical shapes and patterns.

  105. Kondapalli Toys, also known as Kondapalli Bommalu, are a unique form of Indian wooden toys that originate from the town of Kondapalli in the NTR district of Andhra Pradesh. These toys are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship of the region, with a history that dates back to the 16th century. The roots of Kondapalli Toys can be traced back to the “Aryakshatriyas” community of Kondapalli, who are believed to have migrated from Rajasthan several centuries ago.

    The tradition has been transferred from generations in the people of the “toy colony” of Kondapalli where almost everyone is engaged in preserving this magnificent art. Puniki wood is used for carving beautiful images. It is a white colored wood grows in the local region, and it is grown for making toys. The toys are stuffed with tamarind seed paste and sawdust to make them stable. Vegetable colors are used to paint the toys for the international market. Local people prefer oil paint or enamel. These toys depict farmer couples, decorated elephants, and palanquin bearers.

    The raw material required for making these artifacts are- wood, chisel saw dust, muslin cloth, tamarind seed powder, deer horn spade, water & vegetable dyes / paints. The wood they used is very light weighted.

    These Toys contribute to the development of cognitive, motor, psychosocial, emotional, and linguistic skills. It also plays a key role in raising self-confident, creative, and happy children. They help children to develop social and language skills as well as help in emotional development.
